If you ask around in Manhattan, most well informed people will tell you that the best tailor / dry cleaner in the city is Madame Paulette. We have used them and agree, they do outstanding work and brilliant customer service. But that comes with a hefty price.
Our other choice is the rather non descript, Dynasty Custom Tailor. You can expect the same quality and friendly staff here at a better price. And since all the fun people live downtown these days going to 38th Street and 5th Ave is closer than 2nd Ave and 65th Street. Saves you getting that uptown visa for your passport.
We still take our furs to Madame Paulette but everything else goes to Dynasty.
Tucked away in Mayfair on 29 Clarges Street is a lovely spot to have a burger or lobster. Aptly named Burger & Lobster. They don’t take reservations and are open Monday – Saturday from Noon to 10:30pm (last orders). We had both choices and were very pleased. Great atmosphere and the place always seems to be busy so prepare for a bit of a wait at the bar but it’s worth it.
The best part…GBP 20 for either the burger (10 oz) or the lobster plus chips (fries for the Americans) and salad. Now you know why we are fans.
